It’s been almost three years since we heard about the pre-production for a live-action Spirou & Fantasio movie. But a few days ago, while promoting his directorial solo-debut Hibou, the French actor Ramzy Bédia happened to mention that he’ll be playing the villain in the film. (Spirou & Fantasio is one of four movie roles he has coming up, so shooting might very well still be a ways away.)
The 44-year-old Bédia is a comedian, part of the duo Éric et Ramzy with frequent collaborator Éric Judor. And he has prior experience with comic book movies: The two previously played Averell and Joe Dalton (respectively) in the 2004 film Les Dalton (“The Daltons”), based on the Lucky Luke comics.
There’s no word on who exactly he will play. Some people are guessing Zantafio, but there are many other possibilities.

Surely he has a Zorglub look to him. And surely Zorglub is the one villain to use if you’re making a Spirou film.
The look isn’t everything though… I don’t want to sound condescending, but Ramzy Bédia isn’t exactly known for his fine humor, and has the most annoying voice you can find. He’s also way too young for Zorglub–who attended the university with Champignac.
I admit this is the first time I’ve seen the man, so I was going solely by the looks.

Oh Lord… Can’t they leave it well alone.
I wish they’d stay away from Zorglub. At least for now. Introduce Zantafio, then the Count of Champignac, then Zorglub. No need to rush things.
But yes, it’s probably Zorglub.

I’m kinda excited and kinda terryfied. I would love to see this, but at the same time i really hate the live action Asterix movies and I’m affraid it might turn out like this.
I stay slightly positive, but prefer to see the film as a different take in a different continuity than the comics, to enjoy on its own merits. (Which I more or less tend to do with the regular albums, anyway…)
Apart from that, I kinda enjoyed the Marsupilami film, but Jean Dujardin’s Lucky Luke film was a complete nutjob in how far it strayed from the original material…
I immediately thought Zantafio when I saw the picture…
Zantafio, I presume…
