Scanlation Sunday: The Spirou Code of Honor 6

And here’s the accompanying text from the Robbedoes Almanak 1944, translated again by the ever-helpful Miriam (clearly living up to this point of the Code):

The first half of the year is over, and with it, the first half of our code of honour for 1944. You know what we agreed on at the beginning of this year. We would devote ourselves with might and main to live up to the Spirou Code of Honour. Every month we would focus on a specific part of the code with extra attention. And we wouldn’t even be satisfied with that. Because making good resolutions is easy: they have to be executed, too. Therefore, we would make a short survey of our conscience to ask ourselves if we had executed our resolution.

That’s why now, at the start of the second half of the year, a new survey of conscience is in its place. Were we faithful to our resolutions during the first six months? Have we acted like a true Spirou Rascal or Rascalette? Did we bravely follow the 1944 code of honour? Did we not give up underway? Take a quick honest survey before making this resolute decision: The second half of the year we will stay loyal to our unsurpassed code of honour!

That’s the reason why this July, we immediately start with the fifth part of the code: A Friend of Spirou is helpful and ready to make sacrifices for others! To young and old, to housemate and stranger we’ll maintain this rule. We won’t be embarrassed to help the elderly or others to carry their luggage or groceries on the street. We’ll gladly lend a hand if Mother or someone else needs help, even if they don’t ask. We’ll offer our help spontaneously: that’s the true spirit of Spirou!

I grew up reading Spirou in Scandinavian translations. Now I'm learning French and trying to decode the originals.
