Spirou Reporter was recently contacted by a reader, Dominique Léonard, who shared photos from his collection of Spirou fanart and homages by a number of artists. In particular there were a number of paintings by René Follet, an artist we’ve featured several times before. This time, let’s collect all the pieces in one gallery.
This drawing by René Follet, a veteran of the industry and of the magazine (his first published contribution was in 1949!), was published in the Galerie des illustres in the 2009 Christmas issue of the Journal (#3739). While not explicitly Christmas-themed, to my mind it really captures the feeling.
I love this image. Apparently it is a mockup cover for a proposed art book, but Follet and Dionnet couldn’t get the necessary permission from the copyright holders. Follet is a veteran Belgian comics illustrator, and he has produced a number of great pieces of fanart.
The Paris auction house Artcurial have announced the lots for sale in their next big comics auction, on 16 November. They include first editions and a number of pieces of Spirou art, as well as other works by artists such as Jijé and Franquin (and many non-Spirou greats as well).
