Journal de Spirou 3932 cover (ill. Dupuis, Alfred)

This Saturday, 24. August, sees the Spirou Tour stop off in Bordeaux, and as usual there is a special issue of the Journal devoted to the city in focus. The artists in attendance include Hervé Bourhis, Max Cabanes, Christian Durieux, Érich Liberge and Alfred, who supplied the magazine cover. The connection to Spirou (the comic) is tenuous, but it’s otherwise a good list of local talent, and should be a nice event.

Journal de Spirou #3929 cover (ill. Olivier Schwartz; (c) Dupuis)

As hinted in a previous update, this week’s issue of the Journal de Spirou is a Smurf special, timed to coincide with the publication of Les Schtroumpfs: L’Intégrale Tome 1 (1958–1966) collecting the first Smurf stories. Much like with the Spirou anniversary issue earlier in the year, that means every comic in the magazine has to feature the Smurfs, and again that leads to them being drawn into unrelated series. From 'La homard' (ill. Franquin; (c) Dupuis)

Spirou Reporter is going on holiday, but that doesn’t mean the site will be without updates. A whole bunch of posts have already been written and are scheduled to be posted automatically over the next few weeks. That includes the regular Fanart Friday and Scanlation Sunday updates, as well as a special summer serial starting on Monday. So check back!

However, it won’t be possible for new visitors to leave comments (because first-time commenters have to be approved), and there’s a chance the Facebook notifications may be a bit glitchy. Shouldn’t be a big deal, and anything that goes wrong can be sorted out once we’re back in person. Still, if you do think you might want to leave a comment, it might be a good idea to get approved within the next few hours.

Meanwhile, have a great summer (or winter, if you’re in the southern hemisphere), and we’ll catch up with you and with ongoing Spirou news in a few weeks!

Roch'fort en Bulles (ill. Bannister)

Poster by Bannister

Poster for a comics festival in Rochefort. This year’s guest of honor is Spirou (whatever that means); other guests include Tarrin, Feroumont and Bertrand Pissavy-Yvernault (La véritable histoire de Spirou).

The Turbotraction car keys are a nice detail! (I assume the telescope is some sort of local reference. The monument in the background is the Porte de l’Arsenal.)
