Journal de Spirou #3950 cover (ill. Yoann & Vehlmann; (c) Dupuis and the artists; SR scanlation)

Cover for the Journal de Spirou New Year’s issue (#3950), currently out. It features a calendar with Gaston drawn by various artists (including Tarrin, Tome & Janry, Parme, and Yoann & Vehlmann) as a supplement.

… And that marks the end of the Year of Spirou!

Spirou Reporter will of course continue to cover Spirou news and events in the coming year, but the rate of updates may possibly go down a bit. Hope you have a happy new year, and see you all in 2014!

"A Christmas Tale in Champignac" ('Conte de Noël à Champignac'; ill. Yoann; (c) Dupuis and the artist; SR scanlation)

As our Spirou Reporter holiday scanlation, here is a short Christmas story written and illustrated by Yoann (without Vehlmann, despite what it says in the signature above) for the 2010 Christmas issue of the Journal de Spirou (#3790). Conte de Noël à Champignac (“Christmas Tale in Champignac”) is set after Alerte aux zorkons (Spirou #51, “Zorkons Alert”), in which Champignac was overrun by strange mutants… Continue reading »

While this cover is based on Franquin’s 1960s–70s masthead illustration for the Journal de Spirou (which can be seen in the corner), the collage gives it a pretty different feel. This is from the Arabic magazine مجلة سبيرو, which according to Google translates to Spiro Magazine. Don’t know much more about it, not even the year it was published. It’s cool that the series has been translated into Arabic, though.

As mentioned in seemingly every post for the last several weeks, Le fétiche des Marolles by Schwartz & Yann begins serialization in this week’s issue of the Journal de Spirou (#3949). The adventure is set to run in 12 installments, bringing it to conclusion not too long before the album publication in April. Part one presents the first nine pages, three of which have already been seen. (Some spoilers below the cut!) Continue reading »

From 'Snowfall' by Schwartz & Yann

In between Le groom vert-de-gris (“The field-gray bellhop”) and their new adventure, Le fétiche des Marolles (“The Marolles Fetish”), Schwartz and Yann made a one-pager set in the same universe, a prequel to both stories. It was published in the 75th anniversary issue of the Journal de Spirou (#3914), but this might be a more suitable occasion for it. Readers should be warned that it is pretty gruesome.
